Athens
Visits to the Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum, the Ancient Agora, and the Roman Agora are planned during our stay in Athens.
A very convenient town for walking as all sights are in proximity to each other.
At the end of each day I have scheduled time for cocktails and sketching/watercolour impressions in our ART JOURNALS and discussions of the days highlights.
The combination of high quality services and the satisfaction of the guest demands is Athens 1890 Hotel & Spa priority! The hotel has the most elaborate façade, an impressive wooden staircase and hand painted ceilings as all the ancient architectural elements kept their initiative form. Apart from these delights is the LOCATION:- Saint Eirini square, Athinaidos 10, Athina 105 63, Greece.
Location Highlights:- Central Hub: Situated right on vibrant Agia Irini Square. Neighborhood: Nestled in the historic Monastiraki/Psirri district. Walkability: Steps away from top historical sites and markets.
Discover Delphi’s ruins, including the Temple of Apollo and ancient theatre.
A guided tour from Athens to Delphi’s ancient ruins and the Temple of Apollo. A journey through history and breathtaking views.
No trip to Greece would be complete without visiting the island of Santorini.
That most iconic of destinations. I have a 4 night visit planned to this glorious ‘volcano’ (yes, I said ‘Volcano’) where we will stay in a typical Caldera facing hotel with views looking out to Santorini’s infamous sunsets where we can capture it’s splendour in watercolours. 2 hours per day is scheduled for painting and drawing.
Our home away from home in Boutique Hotel in Fira Santorini. We will have the entire property to ourselves.
Hydra’s Bohemian Heritage
A chance to really relax and embrace island life, inhaling its clean, car-less air and creative spirit — the perfect place for introspection.
Painters are drawn to what Hydra reveals slowly: hard shadows on stone walls, sun-bleached facades, harbour light, narrow paths, and the simple routines of island life.
Hydra continues to attract artists and hosts exhibitions at institutions like the DESTE Foundation Project Space on Hydra.
PAINTERS WHO SHAPED HYDRA’S VISUAL IDENTITY:- Greek artists were also drawn to Hydra’s unique light and architecture. The island became a living studio for painters such as: Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas . Panagiotis Tetsis . Yiannis Tsarouchis . Nikos Engonopoulos . Spyros Vassiliou . Byzantinos
WRITERS WHO SHAPED HYDRA’S CULTURAL BOOM:- A wave of influential authors settled on Hydra, not temporarily, but intimately: George Johnston (Australia) . Charmian Clift (Australia) . Axel Jensen (Norway) . Marianne Ihlen (Norway) . Leonard Cohen (Canada)
AND SO, FOLLOWING IN THESE FAMOUS FOOTSTEPS
It is here during our 7 night stay that we will create most of our larger-scale artworks using various mediums: charcoal, watercolor, and acrylic paints. The works will aim to capture the essence of this bohemian island. Hydra teaches painters to observe, not to transform.
Experience the elegance of a Boutique Hotel with a twist of old world charm
The Orloff house was built in 1796 by a noble Russian sent by Catherine II to assist the Greeks during the Turkish domination. Its name is related to the first revolution in the late 18th century known as “Orloffika”. The house was privately owned by the Kladakis family for more than 80 years before being turned into a hotel in 1986. Since then it has undergone a thorough restoration, with full respect to the initial structure. With only 6 rooms, 2 suites and plenty of common areas; patios, courtyards, garden and verandas, total privacy is guaranteed.
While staying on Hydra we will hop a ferry or two and discover a couple islands, Poros and Aegina, that are very close to Hydra. Bring a hearty appetite for lunch and your Art Journals for a spot of sketching.
